Deny Web Access

Deny Web Access

All too often websites are abused by malicious hackers or other machines infected with viruses. You can prevent repeated abuse by denying certain IP addresses access to your web server.

 Technical Note...

This creates an .htacl file in your html directory--the base for your web content.  No server or client with a matching IP address that is in your deny list will be able to access any content on your server.

To Deny Access.  If you know the IP address of the user/machine that you want to deny access to your web server, enter it here, one address per line - partial IPs accepted (ex. 123.456.789.123 or 123.456.).  At any time, you can remove these denied IPs from the list.  Click the "process" button when done.

 Helpful Hint...

You should review you log files on a regular basis. You can see patterns of repeated logon attempts to secure areas and other suspicious activity in these logs. If you somehow block yourself out (it does happen!) then FTP to your server and remove the .htacl file in the /html folder.
