Bandwidth Usage

Bandwidth Usage

Bandwidth is the term used to measure the amount of resources your server users to transfer the data to and from your server.  This measurement is important because excessive bandwith usage results in deteriorating server performance and increased monthly fees.  It is always a good idea to know where you are in terms of bandwidth usage and plan your growth and web budget accordingly.

Bandwidth is primarily measured in gigabytes. A gigabyte (or gig) is 1024 megabytes, or 1,073,741,824 bytes.  Assuming the average web page with graphics is about 50k (or 51,200 bytes), this means that page can be downloaded almost 21,000 times and use about only 1 gig of data transfer.

 Helpful Hint...

The more video, audio and graphics you have on your site, the more bandwidth your server will use.  However, the marketing benefits of using these visual and auditory tools generally far outweighs any increase in cost for bandwidth.

 Remember...

Appies servers are not configured to "lock out" any traffic over and above your allowed amount.  It is considered a "soft" limit, which means you will be charged/upgraded for any overages, but we will not block traffic from your site.
